I find especially interesting, the geography in this image... rocks and mountains at the top, forests and waters in and around her eyes, fields and soil over her nose and mouth, the "stitches" as blades of grass or grain.

Can't Speak, Won't Speak
This piece is really just a rumination on the wants and desires of women in some cultures in the Middle East as symbolised by the niqab and its depiction in the media.
For me, this issue is not about some pluralist Westernised concept of democracy being drafted into these cultures. This is more about what these women really want for themselves.
I therefore leave the question of personal democracy entirely open to you, the viewer - the stitches over the mouth can be interpreted as censorship, or bald defiance, depending on your point of view.
