Ten years of recovery appear to be not enough, now American Muslims are still feeling the pinch of Islamophobia. This video fairly represents how Islam are mistreated after 9/11 attacks. In this era when people's perception and interpretation of visually complex are deeply influenced by media, what we can do to maintain the objectivity of media, and to rebuild the image of minorities' are worth to think about. ]]>

<![CDATA[Can New Nonviolent Movement Work?]]> http://imow.org/community/forum/viewThread?threadId=523 Wed, 21 Apr 2010 03:37:49 GMT Tuesday, April 20, 2010 8:37:49 PM

I'm part of a new movement called the People's Pact. www.peoplespact.org The People's Pact started at Stanford University, and if it works, we believe it will help to end violence and genocide, and facilitate rebuilding in violence-torn areas. Here's the gist of it: The People's Pact is essentially an interpersonal nonagression treaty. By signing, you promise not to use physical violence against anyone else who signs it, who you can recognize by the green string that all members wear around their wrist or pinky. We can influence the thinking of boys by teaching them how to think about the cost of war Versus benefit of peaceful options, non-violent communication, and not sending our children to military even if they offer lucrative salary or benefit. And there are always better opportunities out there if we look. ]]>

My roommate and I were discussing the tension between Pakistan and India a few days ago in relation to the Oscars in the U.S. The awards event was an evening for the film and cast of Slumdog Millionaire, and it went by without even a reference to the escalating violence in Pakistan and India. Everyone here cannot stop talking about the film and what a "triumph" it is for "all Indians everywhere." I started feeling slightly ill after the 10th article I read with these words. I've seen triple the news coverage about the film's awards than I have about the mounting tension... or about Obama's decision to begin air strikes in Pakistan. It seems that the public and the media would prefer not to look past the dazzle of Bollywood to see the urgent issues facing the people in the region... ]]>
