This is part two to my poem. In my own opinion I think it's the best one out of the two. It is based off of the men I've seen who didn't take responsibility seriously. I watched my mother go through a difficult relationship, and it made me think of this poem.

This project is a slide show of pictures of different women from all over the world protesting. Along with the slide show is a 'story' about women, or people in general, that are under oppression. I used the metaphor of morning to night to morning again to show the growth and process of realizing the oppression and then working together to overcome it. I wanted to write a story depicting the feelings a person under oppression would feel as well as use words to reflect back to protesters using their words against those oppressing them. So turn up the volume and enjoy!

I made this project because I wanted to express my support for the IMOW cause through music. I used Bob Marley's song Get up, Stand up because I felt it fit the situation the best. I hope people can listen to this song and feel the urge to fight for this cause.

The Power of a Woman

Ari Stachel wrote a poem that reflects his gratitude towards I.M.O.W. for teaching him the worth of women in the world. Tessa Cruz culminated the poem with a graphic art piece which reflects on her opinion of the women in the world acting as a catalyst for change and liberation.

In this short presentation I hope to show all women that they are not alone and that they can have a different way of living. They don't have to accept what society has given them and that they can create their own future.

Students from Oakland School for the Arts participated in I.M.O.W.'s Pilot Education Program in conjunction with the Women, Power and Politics exhibition.

I.M.O.W. partnered with Liza Gesuden, a teacher at Oakland School for the Arts, and her Senior Honors English class to create an Education Pilot Program that focused on the Museum’s exhibition, Women, Power and Politics, for a 5 week unit. Engaging WPP’s varied stories as course texts, students organized in-class presentation, discussed central topics explored by the exhibition and worked on assignments inspired by the exhibition. Students’ communal reflection about this experience—one of their assignments—is below.
