Mónica Mayer, works around that submissive but strong mother, in her performance “Mothers only two”, one of them is the virgin of Guadalupe, mother of all Mexicans, motherly figure that comes from the pre Hispanic goddess Coatlicue, past both mythological and surreal. Mayer plays with the ideals of religion and profanity, her work goes beyond the appearance of modest and ineffable characterizations of the traditional Mexican mother who behind it all is the pillar of Mexico’s economic.
