Author-journalist Dian Washington Valdez speaks in cities coast to coast in the United States and other countries, does media interviews, and promotes minority and women writers. She is featured in the documentary "Border Echoes," produced by Lorena Mendez-Quiroga. She has received at least 30 journalism and community awards, including awards for promoting civil and human rights. Teaches, and has a master's degree in political science from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Promoting peace and justice and empowering girls and women. Goal is to reach at least 100 cities with the message to "find out what is going on in your community and then do something to help. Encourage victims of violence to seek help for healing.

JUAREZ, MEXICO – It was the brutality with which they killed the young women that first caught my attention. That winter’s day of 1999, I stayed up into the early morning hours reading narratives that described death after horrible death. Despite what the Mexican authorities said, the murders were not normal. And, they were many.
