About me:

I am a Kashmiri scholar, journalist and former civil servant. I have started an online magazine called Kashmir Lit.

It is an endeavor to support Kashmiri and diaspora writers or those interested to write about Kashmir by:

--providing a worldplace platform to share their writing

-- creating awareness of Kashmiri writing and cause --generating an academic resource on all things Kashmiri

--garner support from people interested in Kashmir and Kashmiri writing

--creating opportunities through virtual and real-life workshops, classes and online interactions

You are invited to submit to the magazine.

From Women, Power and Politics:

Kashmir and Elections

Featured Community Voice: Ather Zia

Kashmiri scholar, journalist and former civil servant Ather Zia offers a detailed and rarely discussed history of the elections and campaigns in the disputed region of Kashmir in India. She explains the complicated history of the region and delves into the serious issues regarding Kashmiris' general disenchantment with electoral politics, women's near invisibility in leadership positions, women's political kinships, rigging, and the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination.

From Women, Power and Politics:

A Collage of Her Severally-Inspected Parts
Kashmiri scholar, journalist and former civil servant Ather Zia details the range of ways in which Kashmiri women participate in politics. Through profiles of various women activists, she shows that although women differ ideologically and in their political actions, they nevertheless participate increasingly in shaping Kashmir's future.
