The International Museum of Women is pleased to invite you to our upcoming event, Moon Tides: A Book Event with Photographer Brenda Paik Sunoo.

"With a compassionate eye and a generous heart, Brenda Paik Sunoo has beautifully captured the fascinating, dwindling world of the haenyeo. I am grateful she has given voice to these ‘grannies of the sea' and their powerful, moving stories. Dive into this book and prepare to be amazed."
--Gayle Brandeis, Author of The Book of Dead Birds, Delta Girls, and Fruitflesh: Seeds of Inspiration for Women Who Write

Event details: Wednesday, June 29 from 5:30 p.m. at the Russ Building, 235 Montgomery St., 12th Floor, San Francisco. Wine reception and check-in begins at 5:30 p.m.; author talk begins at 6:00 p.m. Tickets for museum members are $5, and $10 for the general public. The event is open to the public, though an RSVP is required. Moon Tides will be available for sale and signing.

Brenda Paik Sunoo's Moon Tides: Jeju Island Grannies of the Sea is an homage to the haenyeo-the elderly women divers who range in age from 39 to 93 years old who live on Jeju Island, Korea. Through photographs and interviews, Moon Tides introduces the reader to these extraordinary women in their own voices and in their own environments.

A selection of Brenda's images were included in IMOW's juried photography exhibition, Picturing Power & Potential. Her submission, "Jeju Grannies of the Sea", won the Picturing Power & Potential Community Choice Award.
