DESCRIPTION:Join IMOW as we launch our latest Project of Economica, Young Women Speaking the Economy! Young Women Speaking the Economy features work from young women from the Sudan, Philippines, Denmark and United States. At this special exhibition celebration, we will highlight some of their work, hear from participants from each country, and hear from special guest speaker Maya Soetoro-Ng!     Learn more about the exhibition here>>     Event details: Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 7:00 pm, Mills College, Jeannik Méquet Littlefield Concert Hall, Music Building, 5000 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland, CA 94613. Free parking is available on campus. This event is free and open to the public, but please RSVP to rsvp-vpo@mills.edu to secure a seat. Program followed by dessert reception and book signing with Maya Soetoro-Ng.   About Young Women Speaking the Economy Launching on April 21, 2011, IMOW's newest online exhibition will explore young women's hopes, aspirations and ideas at a critical moment for the global economy. Groups of women aged of 18-25 from the Sudan, Philippines, Denmark, and the United States will share their creativity and perspectives on the economy, careers, well-being and professional life with each otherand with the museum's global online audience. Major funding for this innovative multi-country project is provided by a grant from the American Association of Museums' Museus & Communities Collaborations Abroad (MCCA) program and a MetLife Foundation Museum and Community Connections grant. Learn more about the exhibition here>>    About our Guest Speaker  Maya Soetoro-Ng was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, and is a writer and educator with a PhD in international comparative education. Ladder to the Moon, her first picture book, was inspired by her young daughter Suhaila's questions about her late grandmother Ann Dunham, the mother of Maya and of United States President Barack Obama. Beautifully illustrated by Bay Area Mexican-American artist Yuyi Morales, Soetoro-Ng's work emphasizes the importance of storytelling in our lives and addresses themes of global awareness, cross-cultural understanding and inter-generational connectedness.
